Lydia Ballard Johnson

Lydia Ballard Johnson, 75, peacefully departed her earthly body on December 10, 2020, New Orleans, LA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph E. Johnson Jr., and nephew, Reynaud Joseph Coleman. She is survived by her children: Ursula Johnson (Henry) Murdaugh, of Woodbridge, VA, Joseph Edward (Erica) Johnson, III, of Slidell, LA, Edward Jerome (Sametta) Johnson, of New Orleans, LA, Sharon Johnson (Tyson) Giles of Harvey, LA and Zachary (Denise) Johnson, Sr. of Vacaville, CA; grandchildren, Kayla Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Jr., both of California, Darrell (Shelly) Gordon Jr. of Texas, Janay Morgan, Ellis Murdaugh, Noah Murdaugh, Jade Johnson, Edward Johnson (EJ) Jr, Diamond Floyd, and JaRoy Jackson; great-grandchildren, Darrell III and Tyler Gordon. Lydia is also survived by her devoted sister, Jacqueline A. Coleman; her only living aunt, Marion Batts of Petersburg, VA; a niece, LaKeysha Coleman McAlpin; great-nieces, TyKesha Williams, Reyonne and Raynell (also her goddaughter) Coleman; great-nephew, Rey’Sean Coleman; close cousins, Lydwina Hurst and family and her constant 4-legged companion, “Chief”.

 

  • Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 2015 Louisiana Avenue, New Orleans.

 

  • Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. At 10:00 a.m. the start of the Mass of Christian Burial.

 

  • Interment St. Joseph Cemetery #1.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in memory of Lydia B. Johnson.
