Estonia Ervin Mackie “Toni” Stephens peacefully transitioned from this life on June 20th, 2025, at the age of 90- daughter of the late Booker Ervin, Sr., and Mabel E. Dancy, sister of the late Booker T. Ervin, Sr., and wife of the late William T. Stephens, Jr. She was the proud mother of Rickie (Lydia) Monie, Sr., Lorna M. Edwards, Cheryl M. Byrd, and Farrin S. Guillory. She was stepmother to William T. Stephens, III (Debra) and ‘Mother of Love’ to Alfred (Girlie) Mackie, Madelyn Mackie and the late Vincent (Christy) Mackie; aunt of Lynn (Trevor) Ervin Truax, Booker, Jr. (Nina) Ervin; grandmother of Rickie, Jr. (Rene) and Genevive Monie, Justin and Colin Edwards, James (Dominique) and Gregory Byrd, Brandon and Jordan Guillory, Andrell (Neifa) Hardy and Omar Taylor, Deshun and Shondra Stephens and Danielle (Bernard) Grace; great grandmother of Ayden, Antonio, Ian, Gerardo, Zeaux, Brittany, Andrel, Jr. Alexa, Connor, Dylan, Benjamin, Braxton, and RaShon. She is also survived by a host of other loving family and friends.
Estonia was a native of Denison, Texas but lived in New Orleans for most of her life. She graduated from Gaudet High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dillard University. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 3 years at Flint Goodrich Hospital and taught in the Orleans Parish Public School System for 28 years.
Estonia loved to shop and was an avid Bible reader. She sent out an inspirational message to family and friends on her ‘church list’ faithfully every morning at 7:00am until the very end. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, and listening to the smooth jazz tunes of her talented brother, Booker, Sr. and her son, Rickie, Sr. She enjoyed watching the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans sports teams, and her newfound favorite, the WNBA.
Estonia was a parishioner of St. Martha Catholic Church and a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association.
Estonia’s family was her pride and joy. The loving, caring and positive effect she had on everyone’s path she crossed will truly be missed and cherished forever.
