Dorothy Lee McGee Reese

Dorothy Lee McGee Reese entered eternal rest on Friday, 15, 2026 at the age of 94.
A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was born at Charity Hospital in New Orleans to the late Johnnie McGee and the late Adell Burton Juluke. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of nine years old and was baptized October, 1940 at Greater Ebenezer B. C. by the late Rev. J. R. Anderson. Sis. Dorothy Reese later joined Greater St. Stephen under the pastorate of Rev. Percy Simpson, Jr. and maintained her membership under the pastorates of Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr., Dr. Debra B. Morton and Bishop T. Delbert Robinson. She was educated in St. Helena Parish and New Orleans Public School Systems.
On June 24, 1950, she married the love of her life, the late Frank Reese, Sr. Together they were blessed with 5 children, 1 adopted son and one godchild. Dororthy Lee, as she was lovingly called by family was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie McGee and Adell Burton Juluke, her grandparents, John and Kate Burton and her husband, Frank Reese, Sr., son, Frank Reese, Jr, two daughters, Carol Reese Leonard and Linda Reese Taylor her sister Sylvia Ann Juluke and a great-grandson, Landon Kai Leonard.
Sister Dorothy was a faithful member in “Greater” and during early years served on the First Family Support Committee and the Church Beautifying Club.
She leaves to cherish precious memories, two daughters, Gail Reese and Chissell Reese, adopted son, Luther Ray Barnes and her godchild, Kenneth Smith, son -in-law, James Leonard, Jr., her grandchildren, TaeJeanne Taylor-Lawrence (Troy), Alicia Jeanae Leonard, and James Leonard Leonard, III (Aviana), 4 great-grandchildren, Troy A. Lawrence, Jr., Camryn A. Lawrence, Kaison C. Addison, Kaileigh Adell Leonard, Javell O. Leonard and one great-great-grandchild Landrei J M Lawrence, 2 devoted nieces, Rev. Anne Barnes and Myrtis Hawthorne, other nephews, nieces, cousins, church family, friends and all whose lives she touched.
The Celebration of Life honoring our Matriarch will be held at Greater St. Stephen F. G. B. C. 5600 Read Blvd. on Friday, May 29, 2026. Service at 10: 00 a.m., viewing at 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr, Officiating. Bishop T. Delbert Robinson, Senior Pastor.
