Lucion Cooper, Jr. departed this life on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the age of 88. Loving husband of 51 years to Mary Pitre-Cooper, Mr. Cooper was the proprietor of the Turning Point Lounge. Son of the late Lucion Sr. and Lily Mae Cooper, Father of Lucion Cooper III, Inita Cooper-Greenberg (Jimmy), Dennis Cooper and Tyrone Cooper (Charlotte Winn). Grandfather of Nira Cooper, Sybil Penn (Quincy Jones), Norman Penn (Kayla), Tyrone Winn, Marlon Penn, Kenyantranece Winn and Jason Cooper. Brother of Lessie Mae Cooper, Gertrude Cooper-Lester, Roosevelt Cooper and Probie Cooper. Mr. Cooper is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
Relatives and friends of the family, pastor, officers and members of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches, former patrons of the Turning Point Lounge and employees of the Algiers Charter School Association – Landry-Walker Senior High School, are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Greater Liberty Baptist Church, 1230 Desire Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 8:30 – 9:45 AM. Service will begin at 10:00 AM. Pastor Dr. Calvin Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue, New Orleans, LA.
