On September 10, 2022, Leon D Varnado unexpectedly transitioned from this earthly life into eternal rest at the age of 67, in New Orleans, LA. Leon was born on March 6, 1955, in New Orleans, LA. Leon attended Booker T. Washington High School, where he graduated in 1973. Over the years, Leon travelled the world to countries within Africa and Europe as he was a long-time employee of the National Maritime Union (NMU) and functioned as ship quartermaster. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Kelly Varnado-Knox, Steven Varnado, and Asha Varnado; sister, Linda Dunmore; step-sister, Andreanetti Jones Marshall; devoted cousins, Gwendolyn Shy and Jane Varnado; and long time friend, Desiree Shelling. He was preceded in death by his mother, Luberta Varnado Francis; father, Lucius Varnado, Sr., step-father, Harold Francis; brothers, Lucius Varnado, Jr. and Michael Varnado, Sr.; and step-sister, Aginah (Ann) DeBerry.

 
 

  • Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at St. James Methodist Church for 10:00am

 

  • Visitation starting at 9:00am until the hour of service
